In 2020, the owner of the X4 Fitness franchise tasked Plan North Partners with opening his second location in the Birmingham area. PNP managed the project from conception to completion and helped establish the franchise’s first-ever design standards.

Project Overview
In 2020, the owner of the X4 Fitness franchise tasked Plan North Partners with opening his second location in the Birmingham area. This time, however, the owner wanted PNP to help establish the franchise’s first-ever design standards. PNP got to work by bringing in KEM Studio as the architect/designer and spent several months coordinating the development of X4’s official look and feel. In the end, they chose a sophisticated and minimalist aesthetic that incorporated lots of local materials, like a six-foot block of Alabama marble and a wall made of native timber species that greeted members on arrival. The extra work put into design development was an added cost, but Plan North Partners found ways to balance the project’s budget by competitively bidding the construction and negotiating the incentives provided by the landlord. The final product was a stunning facility that transmitted the ethos of X4 and stands as the franchise’s flagship location to this day.
